Journey With Christ
What Makes Human Being So Valuable?

Question description

Luke 12:7

7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

What makes human beings so valuable that God Almighty will sacrifice His begotten son - Jesus Christ the Messiah? John 3:16

Whenever I look into my life holistically, I find nothing that qualifies me to be valuable to myself—a failed relationship, education impediment, career impediment, failures in businesses, and indebted. I myself wouldn't consider myself worthy or valuable. And I believe many people in the world are like myself.

I am not questioning God's love for us, but just wondering with all our messes, what makes us so valuable to God? He won't give up His Son - Our Lord Jesus Christ to redeem the fallen angels. Why a mere human?

Answer description

Thank you for your question. I think all serious Christians question their worthiness to be loved by God at some point in their lives. As you point out, we all have flaws, have made bad decisions, and are constantly plagued by sin. None of these are honoring or commendable to God. And yet, He loves us without limit. So, let's look into Scripture and see if we can understand why.

First, God calls us to forget our past and focus on the future - Philippians 3:13-14. Dwelling on our past failures only causes us to drift into negativity. That is not where He would have us be. God promises He has plans for us to give us a future and hope - Jeremiah 29:11. So let go of all your failures and direct your eyes toward the Lord. When you do that all doubt evaporates.

But this does not answer your question of why, so let's address that next. Genesis 1:27 tells us we are created in God's image. He perfectly formed us and thus we have extreme value to Him. Just think of something you did or made in your life that you believed was excellent work. You were very proud of that effort. So thus we can get a small glimpse of how God might feel when he created us perfectly. Certainly, there is great value in that. Next, 1 John 3:1 states, you are a child of God. Every parent will tell you the importance of their children. Most agree that they would do anything to protect them. So how much more must God value us, who have been declared to be His children? Is there any way for us to understand how much He loves us? The consequence of this value is that He allowed Jesus to die for us. An earthly parent would most likely give up their life for the benefit of their child. But God did it for all mankind. He is exhibiting how much value each person has in His eyes. After we have begun our spiritual walk as His children, He calls us to be ambassadors for Jesus - 2 Corinthians 5:20. What an awesome responsibility He is calling us to. And thus we again see the depth of value He has for each of us.

There is one final aspect we should consider, which relates to your original question. And that is the Great Exchange. At the moment of salvation, Jesus is given for all of our sins, and in that same moment, Jesus gives us all of His righteousness. Thus when God looks down on us in our new spiritual state, He sees us as perfect as Jesus is perfect. What greater value could we be to God than being perfect in His eyes?

So don't lament, my friend. You are of great value to God. Go forward in victory.
