Hi there, thank you for taking the time you speared to read through my questions and considered to provide answer.
While reading John 20 vs 1-5, I wondered about the following questions
In vs 8, despite outrunning Peter, he wouldn't/couldn't go in, until Peter arrived, why?
"The other disciple" is a modest way of the author telling the readers if was John the Evangelist himself. We do not know the motive why this run was recorded. However we simply knew that John was a younger man than Peter (imagine a late teenager or ealy twenty year-old running with someone twenty something) It seemed it was recorded to tell us how hard they ran to go and check out what happened to their late beloved Master's body. We do not know tha apparent reason why John didnt enter the tomb - perhaps he did not be ceremonial unclean or he was respectful enough to allow Peter his senior to enter the tomb first although he outran Peter.
I want us to note, however, that John revealed to us that he believed because of what he had seen in the empty tomb way before they understood the Scripture (vv8-9) and also before the rest of the disciples who believed after they personally saw the resurrected Lord Jesus later. Indeed, we could say "he outran" all when it comes to believing in the resurrected Christ had prophesied.

Interesting! I have read the passage repeatedly, trying to figure out who the disciple was. Thank you for revealing that part of the passage.
If I may paraphrase my understanding of your explanation of the event, we shouldn't focus too much on "who outran who", but "on the quickness to believing" attitude that John showed. And this should be taken as spiritual knowledge encapsulated in the passage?
Would you mind letting me know if I understood what you were saying correctly?
Thank you.
