The Trinity and Salvation

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (NKJV)

Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

God’s desire to save us is more than we can ever imagine.

The Apostle Paul explains that our salvation is the will and works of the three Persons of the Trinity. The Father God has reconciled the world to Himself through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:18-19), and the Spirit in us assures us of eternal life and enables us to follow and imitate Christ.

We must have a correct grasp of the doctrine of the Trinity since it explains God's nature, heart, and will towards us. This enables us to love God more faithfully and serve Him more fruitfully.

Whatever God is doing in us right now is based on what He has already done for us in Christ. We are chosen and accepted into the Beloved. Many people know that God is love but are unsure if He loves them. The good news is that Jesus prays for God to love us as much as He loves Him. There is nothing to fear or dread now because God’s love has already been perfected in us and is being strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

When we respond to the Spirit by believing the truth about who we are and have in Christ, we can love and serve God with confidence. This is because God had given us His Holy Spirit to enable us to will and work for His pleasure. We will experience a deep satisfaction in God when we respond to His working in us and through us.

Remember your salvation is all God's doing.

The Father initiates our salvation. The Son achieves our salvation. The Spirit sustains our salvation. Without the Trinity, there is no gift of salvation. So let us thank the Father for sending the Son to live and die for us and to live again through sending the Holy Spirit to live in us.

Identity in Christ

1 Corinthians 6:17 (CEV)

But anyone who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit with Him.

Your identity in Christ is an essential part of your relationship with Him.

It is the key to receiving and enjoying a life of spiritual rest and fullness. Too often our Christian life and church life are activity-driven, goal-based, and result-focused. As a result, we become consumers who, unintentionally, substitute life with Christ in favor of so-called Christian pursuits and programs. This is not to say that we should stop doing everything; rather, we should discover again our understanding of the Christian life.

We are called to a new covenantal relationship with Christ, to be united with Him in life and love. The Apostle Paul described it brilliantly for us in the following passage.

Today I am who I am because of God’s grace, and I have made sure that the grace He offered me has not been wasted. I have worked harder, longer, and smarter than all the rest; but I realize it is not me—it is God’s grace with me that has made the difference. 1 Corinthians 15:10, The Voice

Here Paul is saying: “Because God's grace not only establishes my identity, but it also empowers and equips me to minister effectively, I will work with God and for God through His power working in and through me.”
Our identity in Christ is not built on service and ministry. It starts and ends with resting in Christ, enabling His life in us to grow and thrive in all good works. Then our lives are marked by our faithfulness and fruitfulness, rather than our busyness and excessive activities.

Oneness in Christ

John 15:5 (NIV)

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.

Keep your mind and heart on Jesus.

Learn to value the truth and reality of your oneness in Christ.

Knowing that He is in us and we are in Him enables us to rest on His life to be faithful and fruitful. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own, neither can we bear fruit by our effort or strength. We can only enjoy great fruitfulness and bring glory to God if we remain in Christ through faith.

The Christian life is about living in Christ, living with Christ, and living for Christ.

You are complete in Christ because His presence and power live in and through you. When you surrender to His grace and continue to receive it, He will transform you into a faithful and fruitful witness for His name’s sake. You can place your trust in Him to create and consecrate you as a new and living sanctuary (1 Corinthians 6:19, Romans 12:1), where His indwelling Spirit will empower you to lead others to Him

The oneness we enjoy in Christ is the work of God’s amazing grace. The life of being united in Christ is one of intimate friendship, love, and communion—where we are invited to the perichoresis dance of the Trinity. It is in this divine circle dance of love that we discover how each of the divine persons of the Godhead is involved in our spiritual growth, maturity, and progress.

The eternal and self-giving love within the relationship of the Trinity is communicated to us and experienced by us through our oneness and participation in the divine life that already dwells within us. As we receive, we give. The understanding is that we cannot truly enjoy God’s love until we love Him back, and the way we love God is by loving others as He loves us.

Perichoresis

John 14:16-17 (NCV)

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.

Perichoresis is the word the early church fathers used to describe the eternal and loving oneness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The word means “circle dance” or “dance around together.” This dance represents the perfect and reciprocal relationship and union within the Godhead, where each person encircles the other two. All are co-eternal, co-equal, and co-existing, while also working as one in love.

The Apostle John describes this unparalleled and unique dynamic of the Trinity in the following way: the Son glorifies the Father (John 17:4), the Father glorifies the Son (John 17:5), and the Holy Spirit glorifies the Son (John 16:14).

This eternal circle dance of love is not exclusive but is ever-inclusive and inviting.

Our salvation is the Triune God's revelation of Himself to us and His eternal life of love for us. We have been chosen, adopted, and incorporated into God’s wondrous love story of salvation. God the Father, the ultimate source of divine love (1 John 4:8, 16), sent His only Begotten Son, the perfect image and likeness of divine love, to reach out to a broken and darkened world. The Holy Spirit was sent to glorify the Son, which He does by dwelling within us, guiding our walk, and producing the fruits of divine love.

When we gather as the people of God, we affirm our belief in and experience with the Trinity, both doctrinally and practically. We become the living expression and continuation of this Trinitarian love for one another and all others. This is why Jesus made love the greatest commandment for His followers (John 13:35). The world is waiting for us to manifest this truth in real and tangible ways.
